Top Wallpaper Trends for 2021
Want to spruce up your interiors this year, but don’t know where to start?
These are the five biggest wallpaper trends for 2021 with some recommendations of where to find the latest murals, tropical and marble designs. To help make your transformation easier, here’s WallpaperBuddy’s simple guide to hanging wallpaper.
Mural Wallpaper
Mural wallpaper has seen an increase of over 300% in Google searches over the past year, which probably explains why it’s the top wallpaper trend for 2021.
‘3D wallpaper designs will become a huge trend,’ says Alex Whitecroft, Head of Design at I Want Wallpaper. ‘As we look for creative ways to make our spaces feel bigger, expect to see giant wall murals which create an infinite effect and feeling of depth featuring tunnels, cityscapes and forests’.
ILoveWallpaper.com has recently released a range of affordable murals in featuring supersized florals and modern designs perfect for your latest feature wall.
Florals
Florals are in, in a big way – literally – in 2021. Enlarged flowers are a key trend this year so incorporating them in your wall mural. A cross-trend design like Graham & Brown’s Wallpaper of the Year, Timepiece Amethyst (pictured below) is the perfect way to make a statement.
‘There is more wall than anything else in any decorating scheme so adding interest here is key’ explains Martin Waller, Founder of Andrew Martin. ‘This can be achieved through textured wallpapers, wall murals or through bold hits of colour.’

Nature
David Attenborough’s positive influence on the way we think about the environment is now stretching to wallpaper trends. From tropical banana leaf prints to emerald foliage, green hues are everywhere.
‘Any reference to bringing the outside in will have an impact on wellbeing with the plant trend that just keeps on growing,’ explains Maryanne Cartwright, Design Manager at Graham & Brown.
Panels
We all know that wood panelling has been a huge trend over the past few years but now panelling wallpaper designs are making it quicker and easier to achieve that look.
Framed wallpaper like the example below from Cole & Son is the next level of panelling. You can use any wallpaper design to bring a chic twist to your interior.
Marble
Modern wallpaper manufacture has made it possible for vinyl and paper wallpapers to convey natural textures such as natural marble.
‘Marble wall-coverings have been one of the most popular designs, due to its versatility, ‘ explains Andrew Gerraty, co-founder of Wallsauce.com. ‘Whether it’s the abundance of colour and texture choices or the application, as the product can be used widely in kitchens and bathrooms when the natural stone costs are prohibitive.’
