Upgrade the Decor of Your Rented Home
Our guide to decorating your rental property with removable ideas which will make the space your own!
Transform the walls
Wallpaper, our favourite topic – of course – and something that people who live in rental properties believe is out of their reach. However, peel-and-stick wallpaper can!
It’s easy to hang using WallpaperBuddy™, and easy to peel off when it’s time to leave. DigitalIcons on Etsy has an excellent selection of peel-and-stick wallpaper designs.
Replace the light switch and socket plates
A simple way to freshen up your space is in the detail of the light switch plates and sockets. There are some really modern options out there in stainless steel, black, even gold! The originals can be stored until the lease is up.
This one is available from Amazon for just £5.99.
Add a statement rug
You can’t change the floor, we get that, but you can add some personality, colour and comfort with a statement rug. You can also take the rug with you when you’re leaving. It’s also a great way to help create sections within open plan spaces.
Wayfair has some excellent options.
Get a new shower head
This might sound random, but we all know how important a good shower is to our happiness! So, if yours need an upgrade, it’s a simple way of adding a little luxury to your life.
Pretty much every shower head has the same connection in the United States, 1/2″ NPT, and ½” in the UK. This is the standard! So it’s easy to switch up shower heads at your will.
Buy some houseplants
Houseplants are an easy way to add decor, fill a blank space and add real life to a room. As humans, this suits us well. We have an innate attraction to nature and natural processes, called biophilia.
A great way to incorporate houseplants is by growing a small herb garden, with a potted basil or rosemary plant, you’ll always have something fresh and organic to add delicious flavour to any meal.
Invest in multifunctional furniture
Multifunctional furniture can save money and space, and can help adapt a room to your needs.
And if you are tight on space, think about furniture which is stackable, can fold away, or can store easily, from a nest of tables to stackable chairs. IKEA is obviously the King of multifunctional furniture such as this dining table, storage unit and desk!
Hang photos and artwork without nails
Use damage-free Command strips to hang your favourite images, add colour and personality to your rental. They’re easy to stick on and to remove, and they even have metal towel hooks!
Add unique light fixtures
Some simple advice… ‘If you lack natural light, consider putting some lamps in the corner of the room,’ says Sabina Miller, Head of Buying at Heal’s.
‘You could choose a lamp that stands out to make it more of a feature piece, rather than just an accessory. When you’re restricted on what you can do, simple changes make all of the difference.’
